When I traveled to Thailand last fall on a mission trip, my heart broke for the Thai people. Everywhere I looked, I saw spirit houses—small, intricately designed structures placed in front of nearly every home and business. At first glance, they looked like dollhouses, but I soon learned their true purpose. These Spirit houses are meant to protect the homes and businesses from evil spirits that might bring harm.
The Thai people, known for their kindness and gentleness, live under the weight of fear—fear of unseen spirits and forces beyond their control. It was heartbreaking to see them put their trust in man-made structures, believing that these small houses could provide them with safety and peace.
A Land of Beauty, Yet Spiritual Darkness
As I walked through the streets of Chiang Mai, the spiritual darkness was undeniable. While there are many missionaries serving in Thailand, the Christian population remains very small. Some Thai people have spent years working alongside Christian missionaries, hearing the gospel repeatedly and witnessing the love of Christ in action—yet they still do not believe.
The blindness to the truth is not due to a lack of exposure but rather a deep-rooted spiritual barrier. Generations of belief in animism and Buddhism have created a culture where the idea of trusting in one true God feels foreign.
Pray for Thailand
Thailand is a country in desperate need of the light of Christ. My heart aches for the people who live in constant fear and rely on powerless traditions to protect them. But I believe in the power of prayer.
Would you join me in praying for Thailand?
Pray that the Thai people will see the emptiness of false beliefs and seek the truth.
Pray for missionaries and local believers, that they would be encouraged and bold in sharing the gospel.
Pray for hearts to be softened, so that those who have heard the gospel many times will finally surrender to Christ.
The Lord desires that all people come to know Him, including the people of Thailand. May they one day trade their fear for faith in the one true God who alone has the power to save and protect.
