Building Strong Leaders: A Global Leadership Training for Directors

Written by Melissa Heiland - Executive Director

Yesterday was an exciting day for Beautiful Feet International as we hosted a leadership training via Zoom for our directors worldwide. This wasn’t just a routine meeting—it was a time of spiritual growth, personal reflection, and shared purpose. The training, titled 13 Keys to Leadership, was designed to address the unique challenges and responsibilities of leading a ministry.

The Heart of Leadership

The training focused on 13 essential aspects of leadership:

  1. Relationship with God

  2. Integrity

  3. Forgiveness

  4. Responsibility

  5. Patience

  6. Planning

  7. Growth

  8. Dependence on God, not people

  9. Facing fear

  10. Strength in adversity

  11. Faith

  12. Finances

  13. Training others

At the core of the discussion was the idea that leadership is fundamentally about relationships—both with the people we lead and, most importantly, with God. Without a strong and growing relationship with the Lord, it’s impossible to lead others effectively.

Reflecting and Growing

One of the most impactful parts of the training was the opportunity for self-reflection. Directors were encouraged to evaluate themselves on each of the 13 keys, rating their strengths and identifying areas for improvement. This wasn’t an exercise for comparison or judgment but a chance to seek the Lord’s guidance and ask:

  • What are my strengths as a leader?

  • What areas do I need to grow in?

  • What concrete steps can I take to improve?

Many directors shared their insights during the discussion. For example, one director admitted that while they excel in building relationships, they struggle with planning. Another director in the Spanish-speaking group recognized the same weakness but immediately identified someone in their country who excels in planning and decided to learn from them.

This spirit of humility, self-awareness, and collaboration highlighted the unity and mutual support within our global network of leaders.

A Global Family

The training was conducted in two sessions—one in English and one in Spanish—to accommodate directors across different regions. The Spanish session included participants from Bolivia, Mexico, and Canada, while the English session brought together directors from 14 countries, including Burundi, Togo, Ethiopia, Uganda, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Haiti, India, and Bangladesh.

It’s always awe-inspiring to see people from such diverse backgrounds and cultures come together with a shared love for the Lord, the unborn, and mothers in need. Despite the differences in geography and language, we are united by our mission to serve God and protect life.

A Time of Encouragement

These trainings are more than just an exchange of ideas—they’re a time of encouragement and spiritual renewal. Opening God’s Word together, we sought His wisdom on how to better serve Him, each other, and the mothers and babies who come to our ministries.

The directors left with practical tools for growth, a deeper sense of connection to one another, and a renewed commitment to their calling. For me, it’s always a joy to see how God uses these moments to uplift and equip His people.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to equip our leaders, we’re reminded that leadership isn’t about perfection—it’s about constant growth and dependence on the Lord. We are grateful for every director who pours their heart into this ministry, serving faithfully in their countries.

Thank you to everyone who prays for and supports our global network of pregnancy ministries. Your partnership enables us to empower leaders, save lives, and share the love of Christ around the world.

To God be the glory for the incredible work He is doing through these dedicated men and women!
