This week, a memory popped up on my Facebook feed, taking me back eight years to a moment I’d almost forgotten. At the time, I was in Washington, D.C., standing before a public art installation. It was a wall inviting people to complete the sentence, “Before I die…” with their dreams, goals, and hopes. I had written something bold and deeply personal: “See Roe v. Wade overturned.”
Honestly, I didn’t even remember writing that until the memory resurfaced, but I’m so grateful I took a picture and shared it back then. That small act served as a reminder of a dream I had carried in my heart for as long as I could remember—a hope and a prayer that Roe v. Wade would one day be overturned.
It was a prayer I’d been lifting to the Lord my entire life, one I knew many others shared. People often said it was impossible, that it could never happen in our lifetime. Yet, I prayed anyway. And so did countless others.
When Roe v. Wade was overturned, I vividly remember the day. I was overwhelmed with gratitude—gratitude to the Lord for answering a prayer that had echoed in my heart for decades. That moment was nothing short of miraculous, a powerful testament to God’s ability to do the impossible.
For me, the overturning of Roe v. Wade was more than just a political or cultural milestone. It was a profound reminder of God's faithfulness and sovereignty. It was His way of saying, “I hear you, I see you, I have not forgotten you, and I am moving.” But that moment wasn’t the end of the battle—it was the beginning of a new chapter. Since that day, there have been significant challenges and heartbreaking developments in the fight for life in the United States. The work is far from over. Yet, that moment stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness, a reminder that He is still at work even when circumstances feel insurmountable.
Seeing that memory this week renewed my faith and encouraged me to keep praying, not just for this cause, but for all the deep desires and burdens God places on our hearts. So often, we want our prayers answered immediately, in our timing. But God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels long and uncertain.
The eight years between that simple act of writing on the wall and the day Roe v. Wade was overturned remind me of the importance of perseverance in prayer. Sometimes answers come quickly, but more often, they come after years—sometimes decades—of faithful, persistent intercession.
This memory reminded me that God hears every prayer, no matter how long it takes for the answer to come. It also encouraged me to trust Him more deeply, knowing that He moves in ways far beyond our understanding. As I reflect on this answered prayer, my heart is filled once again with gratitude. I am reminded of the power of prayer and the faithfulness of a God who sees us, hears us, and loves us.
If you’re waiting on an answer to a prayer today, I hope this encourages you to keep praying and trusting in the Lord’s perfect timing. His plans are always good, even when they seem delayed. Let this story be a reminder: God is moving, and He is faithful to complete the work He has begun.
To Him be the glory!
